Redesigning the stream in Thessaloniki

During our team's first visit at the stream of Thessaloniki, we followed a parallel route, focusing on the relation between the natural landscape and the urban center, the boundaries and connections, the access to the stream from the surrounding streets and the increasing audio and visual isolation from the city. The existing vegetation, the terrain, as well as the points of interest (glades, hills, etc.) were recorded.

The aim of our design is to activate the senses of visitors to the stream by encouraging them to explore its different areas and paths. The characteristics of the landscape are strengthened, and alternative paths are created to stimulate the senses. The dominant principles of our design are accessibility, the parallel and transverse connections between the stream and the city, and finally, the relaxation and recreation of both residents and visitors.

Therefore, our proposal leads to the creation of thematic areas based on the morphology of the terrain and the existing vegetation, all connected by a central route that gradually evolves from the urban landscape into the open forest.
